The ProPalette

slide-making technology from Polaroid is proving to be a rewardingly
versatile investment for the Glycobiology Institute at the University of
Oxford. The focused and self-contained nature of the Institute - within the
Department of Biochemistry - called for its own slide service for the
research and presentation needs of the students and lecturers.
Polaroid's ProPalette technology creates vibrant, sharp 35mm slides and
negatives from any format of digitally-stored image, whether a digital
camera, computer-generated text or graphics, including library files. The
8000 lines of resolution offer excellent image quality at realistic value
for money, as well as incorporating self-adjusting technology and a
multi-million color palette to ensure vivid, accurate colors. A choice of
factory matched 35mm, 4 x 5 or 6 x 7 camera fittings ensures self-contained
convenience. In handling terms, the Polaroid 8000 range of recorders measure
28 x 71 x 21.6cm and the weight is 15.4kg with a 35mm camera.
Dr Mark Wormald has overall responsibility for the Polaroid recorder,
having been suitably impressed by the quality of sales and technical
support. In terms of ongoing benefits, he observes "we operate a policy of
open access to the equipment which inherently gives people the combined
advantages of scope for experimentation as well as fast turnaround. You
don't have to be a technical expert and the user-friendliness encourages
creativity and confidence to produce more slides. The flexibility for PC or
Mac is crucial, backed by excellent software. I could not now envisage us
without this system." |
